Shakira reveals she’s pregnant with first child

Shakira and Gerard. (Steve Granitz/WireImage)Her hips don’t lie, and now, neither does Shakira. The Colombian pop star — who is set to temporarily replace Christina Aguilera on “The Voice” next season — finally confirmed the rumor that she and her soccer star beau, Gerard Pique, are expecting a baby. “As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!” the 35-year-old wrote on her website on Wednesday. “At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days,” including her performance at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas this weekend. But, she adds, “I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there! … Big kiss!”

According to Colombian magazine Gente, Shakira and the Spanish-born Pique, 25, are expecting a baby boy, who is set to arrive in January. The report from last month adds that the couple has already nicknamed him Ulicito. Shakira’s pregnancy was first reported in July when she was spotted visiting an obstetrician in Miami.

Shakira and Pique, who plays center back for FC Barcelona, have been dating since at least March 2011, just two months after she announced her split from her boyfriend of 11 years, Antonio de la Rua, the son of a former president of Argentina. Earlier that year, it had been rumored that she was already seeing Pique, although she denied it.

The two first met in the spring of 2010, about the same time he appeared in the music video for her World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka,” and the same year Spain took the title. Since then, Shakira has been spotted cheering on her man at FC Barcelona games all over the world, including a match in Dallas last year.

But not all is so rosy for Shakira. Her ex, de la Rua, is suing her for $250 million because he claims he gave up his career as a publicist to solely focus on brokering deals for her, including one for $100 million with Live Nation.

Halle Berry, Xun Zhou racially transform in ‘Cloud Atlas’

By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk – Wed, Sep 12, 2012 3:22 PM EDT

Halle Berry transforms into a white woman in ‘Cloud Atlas.’ (Photo: Jason Merritt, Getty Images/Warner Bros. P …

By now, most everyone knows “Cloud Atlas” is a mind-bending, epic tale spanning centuries — within which individual characters are reborn. Many of the leading actors in the film portray several different people in different eras, with different hair color, and sometimes appearing as a different race, even gender.

Halle Berry, who is biracial, and Chinese actress Xun Zhou do some race-bending in the film. Both of them portray white women at two different points in the epically long 2-hour, 44-minute cinematic journey, made by the creators of “The Matrix” and “Run Lola run” (the Wakowski siblings, and Tom Tykwer, respectively). Incidentally, South Korean actress Doona Bae — who is getting a lot of buzz for her performance in “Atlas” — also transforms into a white woman at a certain point.

Berry plays a litany of characters in the film, but the white woman she portrays is Jocasta Ayrs, a not-so-true, rather kinky wife of a composer (Jim Broadbent).

Xun Zhou also transforms into another race in ‘Cloud Atlas.’ (Photo: Getty Images/Warner Bros. Pictures)

And Zhou’s white character is the wife of Tom Hanks in the far future when the world has gone to hell. SPOILER: She and her family eventually get killed by a cannibalistic Hugh Grant.

Along with crossing racial lines with the help of heavy makeup — and in some instances prosthetics and eye contacts — Hugo Weaving and James D’Arcy bend their genders by playing women. Weaving is especially memorable as the evil Nurse Noakes.

And Berry takes it even a step further: She plays an old Korean male doctor at one point in the film.

To make all the race-bending more fun, Jim Sturgess also transforms into an Asian character.

Selena Gomez Vs. Megan fox fashion faceoff

The Thread on omg!

By Raechal Leone Shewfelt | The Thread on omg! – Fri, Apr 20, 2012 2:53 PM PDT

Look who’s growing into a true fashionista! Disney diva Selena Gomez was absolutely gorgeous when she recently hit the red carpet in an ensemble featuring an embellished silver, gold, and white Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2012 skirt. However, her look was a little too familiar to Megan Fox fans, because the “Transformers” hottie stepped out in the same garment just one month before. Time for us to decide … who wore it better?

Megan Fox: February 27 (Kevin Winter/NBCUniversal/Getty Images)

Selena, 19, donned the skirt with the Dolce & Gabbana bustier top that the designer paired it with on the runway, when she stepped out for the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in L.A. She finished her look with bright pink and orange heels by Cesare Paciotti, a down tousled ‘do, and smokey eye makeup.

Megan, 25, styled the skirt with a sleeveless white top with a black accent for her February appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” She also left her dark hair down, but accessorized with Brian Atwood footwear.

Both of these women really shine in this glitzy garment, so choosing a winner this week is tough! Selena’s look is flawless, and the two-piece outfit is appropriate for both someone of her age and for a fun event where people routinely get slimed. And don’t we all wish we had a waist like that?! On the other hand, Megan stuns as usual in her retro-styled ensemble. What it comes down to, then, is whether this look will be memorable for either of the ladies, and for me that answer is clear: no for Megan, yes for Selena. So I say Selena edges out her competition for the win! Do you agree?

Rating the Romances in Nicholas Sparks Movies

Before you head to the theater this weekend to see Zac Efron sweep Taylor Schilling off her feet in “The Lucky One,” check out how we rated the romances featured in best-selling author Nicholas Sparks’ previous film adaptations. — By Matt Whitfield, Yahoo! Staff

Ranking the Romances of Nicholas Sparks Movies, The Notebook
Who: Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams Seen in: “The Notebook” (2004) Not only did this film (Sparks’ highest-grossing domestic flick) set the box office on fire, it also birthed two bona fide movie stars who ended up taking their palpable onscreen romance off screen. And, despite their eventual breakup (in the summer of 2008), Gosling and McAdams’ rain-soaked smooch will — without a doubt — be remembered as one of the greatest kisses in cinematic history
Rating the Romances of Nicholas Sparks MoviesWho: Kevin Costner & Robin Wright Seen in: “Message in a Bottle” (1999) Billed as “A story of love lost and found,” this critically derided film permanently lost many with its incessant use of unnecessary melodrama, which was unfortunate because Costner and Wright’s onscreen connection was somewhat convincing. But not even a life raft could’ve saved their budding romance from ultimately sinking thanks to a schlock-filled script adrift at sea.
Rating the Romances of Nicholas Sparks MoviesWho: Channing Tatum & Amanda Seyfried Seen in: “Dear John” (2010) Pairing A-listers opposite each other can make a movie sizzle or fizzle depending on the chemistry between the two. While Tatum and Seyfried are more than capable of sizzling on their own (who’s excited for Tatum’s stripper flick, “Magic Mike”?), as a duo, they aren’t quite able to generate a believable bond. If it wasn’t their fault, point your finger at the cliche-riddled writing, but, if they deserve to take the fall, blame Tatum (not Seyfried) for his tediously inexpressive performance.
Rating the Romances of Nicholas Sparks MoviesWho: Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth Seen in: “The Last Song” (2010)
Love or hate them as a couple, the polarizing Cyrus and the studly Hemsworth are still an item after falling for each other as the film commenced shooting in the summer of 2009. Therefore, we kinda have to credit their onscreen enchantment because it was, in fact, sincere. Thankfully, it also means Miley didn’t have to act as though she were in love. That, my friends, would result in a horror film, not your basic coming-of-age drama.
Ranking the Romances of Nicholas Sparks Movies, A Walk to RememberWho: Mandy Moore & Shane West Seen in: “A Walk to Remember” (2002)
You’d think that when two wooden thespians make contact sparks would ignite and fiery romances would erupt. Well, that couldn’t be more wrong when it comes to the performances delivered by an overreaching West and the painfully vanilla Moore in this low-rent version of “Love Story.” It may be named “A Walk to Remember,” but it’s truly a forgettable movie that features a bore of an amour.
Rating the Romances of Nicholas Sparks Movies
Who: Richard Gere & Diane Lane Seen in: “Nights in Rodanthe” (2008)
Formulaic plot? Check. Contrived dialogue? Check. Ridiculously dramatic shots of windswept seascapes? Check. Unbelievably maudlin third act? Check. (Hello, it’s a Nicholas Sparks movie!) Yet, in spite of all those red flags, romantic film vets Gere and Lane are somehow able to keep their heads above water and their attraction to each other afloat even as the schmaltz … I mean storm, moves in.

Kim Kardashian Wants to be Mayor of Glendale, California

Yahoo! TV

By Claudine Zap | Yahoo! TV – 14 hours ago

If Kim Kardashian has her way, she may be addressed as Mayor Kardashian one day.

In a bonus clip from the “Khloé and Lamar” show Sunday, the two sisters are filmed driving around in Dallas — and pass by the Ross Perot Museum. This prompts Kim to say, “That guy ran for president.” And that she is going to run for mayor of Glendale in “like, five years.” Kim explains she is looking into the requirements, such as residency: “I have to a buy a house there.”

The reality TV star is even thinking strategy with her friend Noelle Keshishian, who will help with her campaign. Why Glendale? “Because it’s like Armenia town.” Kim has done her research: Of the town’s population of about 200,000, one-quarter is Armenian — the largest population outside of Armenia.

Khloé pipes in that she’s going to be mayor of Dallas, so maybe there’s a new political dynasty coming our way.

Matilda’ child star: Film acting is not fun

By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk – 7 hours ago

Photos by 20th Century Fox/Everett & Courtesy of Mara Wilson/FacebookYou may not know her by name, but perhaps that is by design. Nineties child star Mara Wilson has revealed why she quit performing for cameras in a recent blog post: “Here is something no real celebrity will ever tell you: film acting is not very fun.”

In the post, a seemingly frustrated Wilson discusses her childhood career—she appeared in films such as “Matilda” (1996), “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993) and “Miracle on 34th Street” (1994)—indicating the beauty standard for today’s big screen is too contentious for her, and the talent pool is impressive:

I think that there are many much more talented, much more conventionally attractive actresses out there who are taking the roles I would have been offered. To paraphrase the showtune, anything I can do, Anna Kendrick or Ellen Page or Jennifer Lawrence (or any actress from the plethora of actresses waiting to be “discovered”) can do better.

[PHOTO GALLERY: Child Stars Gone Bad]

Wilson addresses the continued enthusiasm her fans have, many of whom ask her to return to film. She compares her early success to finger painting:

It’s flattering, but you haven’t finger-painted in years, and it seems like something you did a long, long time ago. You’ve realized you don’t particularly enjoy getting your hands dirty and that there are other outlets for your creative urges. But people are adamant: are you going to finger-paint again? When? Wait, you’re not? Why not?… That’s what it feels like.

The former child star, now 24, attended New York University and now works as a playwright, according to Us Weekly. And yes, she does still act in theater productions and for voice-over work. But:

…no, you will not ever see me on “Dancing With The Stars.” Sorry.

How Does Angelina Jolie’s Engagement Ring Compare to the One Brad Pitt Gave Jennifer Aniston?

Since Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s engagement was announced last week, there has been so much buzz about the ring, the ring, the ring, which designer Robert Procop and Pitt collaborated on for over a year in order to get it just right. But long before we had ever heard of Brangelina, Pitt famously popped the question to his first wife, Jennifer Aniston, making us wonder how the two rings — both of which he helped create — stack up.

[Related: It’s Official — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Are Engaged]

As we saw on Friday, Jolie’s ring features a massive giant emerald-cut stone, set in platinum, with side stones that encircle her finger. There are varying reports of the price of the bauble — ranging from $250,000 to $1 million — but it’s hard to determine the cost without knowing the carat count, which the couple didn’t share when they made their engagement announcement. What we do know, courtesy of jeweler Procop is that, “Each diamond is of the highest gem quality.” And jewelry expert Michael O’Connor — who estimates that it’s a 6-carat ring with about $250,000 — told Us Weekly, “Emerald cut diamonds have fewer facets so they don’t have the sparkle of other cuts, but that also means that they need to be the best quality. The light returned from a diamond like this is pure and white.”

When Pitt asked Aniston to marry him back in 1999, Silvia Damiani designed a special sparkler — which appears to be smaller than Jolie’s — for the actor’s then-girlfriend. “The story began when casually, Brad Pitt had liked a pair of earrings I had designed after these had won the Diamond International Awards,” Damiani told Business Today. “He then requested a special item for his engagement to Jennifer Aniston based on this same model.” The custom design, which was a symbol of eternity, featured a round stone surrounded by three rows of 20 spiraling diamonds. At the time it was valued at around $500,000. The designer later created Pitt and Aniston’s wedding bands, which were made of white gold, diamonds, and engraved. Aniston’s said “Brad 2000,” while Pitt’s said “Jen 2000.”

Both rings are stunners, but they’re certainly different. Aniston’s has a classic feel to it — Pitt reportedly wanted it to look like a heart to symbolize their everlasting love — and the rows of diamonds give it a can’t-miss sparkle. On the other hand, Jolie’s has a look that’s more in line with modern architecture enthusiast Pitt’s style. It has a large, perfectly cut diamond centerpiece with stones that gradually decrease in size around it — almost in a crown-like shape. And, as O’Conner noted, the cut of the gem mutes the brilliance of the diamonds, so it doesn’t have the same attention-grabbing shimmer that Aniston’s does.

Of course, we can’t forget that Pitt was also previously engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he dated from 1994 to 1997, so he’s had quite a bit of experience when it comes to engagements rings.

Which ring do you like more: Jolie’s or Aniston’s? Weigh in.

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie may share screen time again

By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk – 8 hours ago

photo by Jordan Strauss/WireimageBrad Pitt is close to signing on to a Ridley Scott film in which Angelina Jolie is also circling,Deadline Hollywood reports.

If all lights turn green, this would be the first time the couple has shared screen time since “Mr. & Mrs. Smith“—the 2005 film in which the celebrity pair are said to have first fallen in love (while Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston).

Pitt and actor Javier Bardem are said to be close to signing on, and Jolie is vying for the female lead, according to the Deadline report.

[PHOTOS: Angelina Jolie Part of Villanious Hollywood Trend]

The thriller, called “The Counselor,” stars Hollywood “it” man Michael Fassbender, while Oscar winner Natalie Portman and Jeremy Renner have also been rumored to be in the film. “The Counselor” is about a lawyer (Fassbender) who falls in too deep with drug trafficking.

It starts shooting in June in Europe—a convenient location to Scott’s and Jolie-Pitt’s respective homes in the south of France.

Jolie has voiced the desire to work again with Pitt. In 2010 this is what she told Vanity Fair:

I’d love to. We’ve talked about it. We’d have to figure out who’s going to watch the kids, but it’s really about finding the right thing, because we’ve looked. When you’re a couple, there are certain things people don’t want to see you do. It becomes too indulgent, too personal. I don’t think people want to see people who are really together intimate on-screen. Maybe we have to play bad guys that try to kill each other, so it’s just fun and aggressive, not dealing with some man-woman deal.

Angelina Jolie Part of Villanious Hollywood Trend

Jolie is the latest in a line of Oscar-winning actresses who are getting wicked in fairy tale movies.Angelina Jolie Malnificent Gallery

Angelina Jolie has an uncanny knack for bending movies into submission. Just as “Salt” became her star vehicle in 2010—in spite of the fact that it was written for a male lead and was originally set to star Tom Cruise—Jolie plays the title role as the villainess in Disney’s live-action “Maleficent.”

Based on “Sleeping Beauty,” this film inverts the classic fairy tale by focusing on the story of Maleficent and why she is driven to curse a princess. This is surely a meatier starring role for Jolie than a girl who pricks her finger on a spindle and falls into deep sleep. Disney has announced the film will be in theaters March 14, 2014.

“I’ve already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy,” Jolie said in a recent interview with EW.

Indicative of a trend, other Academy Award winning actresses who are playing villainesses include: Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Rachel Weisz, and Susan Sarandon.

  2. Angelina Jolie Malnificent GalleryRachel Weisz, who won an Oscar in 2006 for her role in “The Constant Gardener,” is set to play wicked witch Evanora in “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” set to fly into theaters on March 8, 2013.
